Can you believe it? My first week as a Martha Stewart Intern is over? Yes, yes it is. And I am shocked to see that it went by so fast, but I feel like I've been there forever! The rest of the week went really well! I'm getting to know my co-workers better and I've discovered a lot of new things about New York that make me love it even more!
Highlights of the week:
Getting drinks after work at McSorely's Ale House with AE: This pub was recommended to us by one of AE's co-workers at MSW and let's just say SUCCESS. The pub was offer only two types of Ale, light and dark, served in two half-pint mugs for only $5. They brew the ale locally so it was fresh and unusual but mostly delicious. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, but old and relaxed.
Going to Trader Joe's: Not once, not twice, but at least three times did I visit TJ's this week. It is a wonderland of private label snacks, drinks, frozen meals and more all at rock bottom prices. AE and I stocked up on delicious vegan pad thai and other delicious frozen meals (at around $3 each) to save money during our lunch hour. Needless to say, I am addicted to TJ's and will make many, many more visits this summer. And PLEASE watch this great video. It really captures the magic of TJ's.
Dinner at The Frying Pan: On our first day at MSLO we probably heard people mention The Frying Pan like one hundred times each. And the veggie burgers you can get there. So we had to check it out and again, it didn't disappoint. It was packed full as we stepped up to the bar to give our order. We ended up sharing a veggie burger and a goat cheese salad. Ten minutes later our numbers were called and we had a predicament. No tables were to be found. Minutes later, as we perched on a plant stand, the manager approached and had a table brought down for us. After that it was great, although the rocking of the boat did make us a little loopy!
I'm sure there is more, but this post is really long already, so I will end it here. I'm currently on a STAYCATION this weekend, so look forward to that post.

"...and I can see the Statue of Liberty from my desk!"
Well, today was the big day! My first day as a Martha Stewart Intern! My day started at 6am after a few hours of nervous sleep, as I was expected at the office by 8:30. For my first day, I wore a striped Anthropologie skirt, white button down and leather belt with nude heels.
After my 40 minute commute (2 trains and a bus) I arrived at the Starrett Lehigh Building, met my friend AE, and headed in, ready to start my first day! I checked in with security and had a temporary pass made, then made my way up to the two floors MSLO occupies in the building. We had our company pictures taken and then were given a delicious breakfast of fruit, yogurt and bagels. We also got gifts! Each intern was given the most recent magazines, Living, Whole Living and Everday Food, as well as a Martha coffee mug (to use in the office) and a Martha, wait for it, RAIN SLICKER. What now. Our HR coordinator said he wasn't forcing us to ever wear them, but its the thought that counts.
After breakfast we got a tour of the building, which I can't detail, but I will say it is an amazing space and a great creative environment. We had an orientation meeting about emails, computers, shuttles, timecards and more as well as getting to know you activities. Then we were ushered up to the rooftop garden for a pizza party with some of the most delicious pizza and salad I've ever had! About halfway through our meal, our supervisors came to join us! After lunch we found our desks and got straight to work! I am working a lot with the website and the imagery that is found there as well as with the whole photo team! I didn't see Martha today, but I'm told she is in the office at least once a day when she isn't traveling, so hopefully I will soon!
Overall the first day was even better than I hoped it would be! ...and bonus, I can see the Statue of Liberty from my desk! Now I'm back at SVA, watching the sun go down out my window and anxiously awaiting another day at MSLO!
Until next time,
AJ
